2018 was a special year for the Leeds Castle Classical Concert as this iconic Kent event celebrated its 40th anniversary. Leeds Castle once again played host to this spectacular open-air classical concert in Kent, on Saturday 14th July 2018. Sponsored by Brachers, a leading law firm in Kent.
We would like to say the biggest thank you to everyone that joined us to help celebrate our Ruby event and hope that you join us again next year on 13th July 2019.
This iconic event is a highlight of the summer season, set in the most spectacular location and natural amphitheater in front of the beautiful Leeds Castle, reputed to be the loveliest castle in the world.
People in their thousands have attended the stunning setting of Leeds Castle across the forty years to be entertained by this amazing open-air musical delight. The first concert took place in 1978 so this year to celebrate, along with much loved classical favourites, the audience was treated to a special finale including greatest hits from the 70s era. This special Ruby celebratory event had a real birthday party atmosphere throughout the summer’s afternoon and evening.
We were delighted that internationally respected conductor John Rigby once again commanded the stage, this year not only conducting the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra but also acting as compere and host.
John Rigby commented:
“What an amazing evening and a great way to celebrate a special birthday! The audience at the Leeds Castle Classical Concert goes from strength to strength and last night created the party of the year in Kent! It truly is the Wimbledon of outdoor classical concerts. Roll on 2019!”
To celebrate 40 successful years as one of the UK’s hottest tickets four sensational soloists took to the stage to mark this special anniversary event. West End performers Louise Dearman and Canadian Tim Howar took to the stage for the first time this year. We also welcomed back; Soprano Katie Bird, who received a rapturous welcome when she made her debut performance last year to a home crowd and Tenor Alexander James Edwards who previously performed in 2014.
The event once again included a spectacular fly-over with a Spitfire from the Aero Legends stable taking to the skies – a fitting tribute to this heritage event. The magnificent evening ended in style with a spectacular fireworks finale.
Join us next year on Saturday 13th July, for a truly memorable evening, you will be enthralled by world-class music, captivated by famous performers, and amazed by our fireworks finale – all this while you have fun with your friends sipping champagne.
Please click here to purchase picnic style tickets. We are making some changes to the layout of the area to allow more room for the marching bands and we will go on sale with seated tickets at 9am tomorrow morning (17th July) so that everyone has the same opportunities to book with plenty of notice.
We are proud that Brachers was our Headline Sponsor for 2018.
